Thursday 31 July 2014 (Day 36)
We are travelling from Chinchilla to Home
Well folks we're home, a 3 1/2 hr. journey extended to 4 1/2 thanks to the unrelenting road works into and past Toowoomba. It was then that we all started saying 'are we there yet'. Destination syndrome really gets the better of us when we know we're on the home stretch. We found Kayla, Jasper (dog) and the house all in one piece and have appreciated your prayer's.
Thank you for travelling with us. It is a holiday we will not forget quickly and will be talking about for years to come. We hope our blog and photos have inspired you to get outback and up north or just explore a little of what our wonderful country has to offer. It is truly a wonderful experience and one we would recommend...one we wish we had more time for.
Just a couple of little thoughts of our holiday you might be interested in (purely subjective of course based on the time of year etc. and we respect those who would differ in their view):-
Worst road - To Adele Grove corrugated with rocks, we lost a lot of vehicular bits on this road
Worst road kill - Landsborough Highway between Ilfracombe and Barcaldine, so many kangaroos, it was depressing
Best shower - Chinchilla had the biggest cubicle, it was huge we could have divided into three cubicles, big shower heads and lots of hot water.
Worst shower - Renner Creek - Blokes got dressed outside the cubical (not enough room inside and no shelf and limited hooks), Nathan died a little.
Best walk - El Questro, voted as the most challenging, Edith Falls the prettiest closely followed by Emma, she had the best water fall.
Worst walk - Geike Gorge, it finished with a letter that said you could not go any further.
Most expensive fuel - 209.9cents
Number of wet days - 1
Coldest water hole - Emma George but it had a warm spa as the bonus.
Coldest temperature - -2 overnight at Neil Turner Weir, Mitchell, followed by 3 at Chinchilla
Warmest temperature - 56 inside, 42 outside tent at Edith Falls, Nitmiluk National Park.
Favourite place to go back to - El Questro, Broome, Longreach and Edith Falls
Best toilet - Rest spot in Queensland somewhere north of Charleville but south of Longreach, it was clean a smelled fresh. There are some interesting rest spots out there (wish we'd written it down but you will know it if you use it)
Best waterhole to swim - Edith Falls, Emma George or Bitter Springs (because it was warm)
Favourite camp site - Katherine, Shady Lane Tourist Park, because we were seclude in a corner surrounded by palm trees.
Worst road works - Gatton Bypass.
Travelling music - Sheppard, Queen, Elvis, Meatloaf. Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Beach Boys, Cat Empire, Abba, UB40, Travelling Wilbury's, Credence Clearwater Revival, Suzi Quatro, Tom Jones, Dr Hook, Cat Stephens, Blondie, Rod Stewart.
