We are Travelling from Neil Turner Weir to Longreach
Good morning to -2 degrees overnight, EGADS! Just when you think having done a few of these trips you're pretty well prepared, yep nope. Our new 0 degrees sleeping bag was no match for the frost and cold that occurred.
We walked down to the weir looking for firewood yesterday afternoon for our planned toasted marshmallows, s treat for our first night on holidays. The fire and marshmallows were delicious but not enough wood harvested for an early morning fire that would have defrosted our fingers. Oh well, the gas burner on the stove worked a treat for the desperate.
Dragging on our frozen jeans was a good 'wake-me-up' not to mention the fresh tap water for the face and hands. Our seasoned travelling buddies at the camp grounds have these dinky braziers made what looks like a cut off gas bottle. We are considering a brazier as an essential addition to out kit for such emergencies.
On Kayla's recommendation, I am ever grateful, that we packed beanies, shame we didn't pack gloves. It took some time, pain and patience to pack down a frosty frozen tent and tonneau. In saying that we still managed to get away at 8.30am and the day warmed up nicely as we headed north.
We stopped at Blackall for lunch finding a sunny park to sit in and enjoy the ray's. There were quite a few road works that slowed down an already long day but we reached Longreach at 4.30pm, found our campsite and set up for a leisurely 2 night stay.
I loved Longreach the first time we visited and it feel like home coming back.
