Thursday 3rd July 2014 Day 8
We are travelling from a free camp site near Barkly Homestead to Katherine
We decided to stop into Barkly Homestead for brekky after a rather interesting night of unusual noises. It is interesting when your brain tries to ascertain noises based on what you know, I was sure that I was listening to construction machinery running through the night (something like a digging conveyer belt). It was dawn when the mooing started that brought clarity that what I was listening to through the night was the scampering of hooves on the tuck floor. Clearly a cattle truck and driver had driven in sometime through the night for a rest...silly brain but I guess these are the things we learn and I'm sure if ever encountered again my brain will know exactly what's happening out there.
We travelled well today and made good time. Crazy distance but decided what the hey lets keep going see if we can reach Katherine this afternoon. We'd all slept well and were up for it though its good to have the plan B a rest stop around Dunmarra if we fade.
We got into Katherine at 5.40pm pitching at the Top Tourist Caravan Park only 22km out from the National Park. We are glad we pushed through to enjoy the longer warmer afternoon (its 28 degrees and still light out) Hmmm, love this tropical winter could do this every year. I have noticed though the humidity as we have travelled north is quite low and on some occasional as low as 25% just gotta keep drinking the H2O.
